Chief Danny F. Brock, Jr., began his fire service career in 2006 after multiple years in corporate management. This trajectory began with the management program at NBD Bank and then evolved through the Marketing Assistant position with WFMS Radio, coordinator and supervisory positions with Consolidated Freightways, and various levels of management within the Allison Transmission Division of General Motors.
In 2006, at the age of 32, Chief Brock began his pursuit of becoming a Firefighter/EMT, finishing as one of the top candidates in the hiring process at Brownsburg Fire Territory. Once in recruit class, he was selected by his peers to be one of two group |
leaders for the duration of the 26-week recruit academy. At the culmination of the academy, he was nominated as co-spokesperson for the graduation ceremony of Recruit Class 06-008. These accomplishments started another chapter in his leadership journey as an informal leader going into his probationary year.
Soon after completing his probationary time with BFT, Chief Brock continued seeking opportunities in leadership by being elected as an Officer with Hendricks County Professional Firefighters of Local 4406. He served in various capacities within the organization and ended his tenure as the Vice President of L4406. Soon after resigning his union position in 2019, he began his formal leadership path by accepting the position of Health and Safety Officer within the Brownsburg Fire Territory Command Staff and later assuming a dual role as the Public Information Officer parallel to his initial position.
Chief Brock brings education (BA in Business Administration from Hanover College), leadership, management, an array of Fire/EMS skills, and a tireless work ethic to the position of Fire Chief for Washington Township/Avon Fire Department (WTAFD). His experience includes 17 years in the fire service, over 11 years of union leadership with Hendricks County Professional Firefighters of Local 4406, 13+ combined years of formal leadership in corporate and fire department environments, along with experience in Fire Training Academies, Hiring Processes, Strategic Planning, Labor Relations, Budget Processes, and Health & Safety. Aside from these experiences, he holds certifications in Officer Training, EMS, Fire Suppression, Rope Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Extrication Technician, Safety Officer, Instructor I, Incident Command Systems (NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800, and various branches within), Peer Support, and Peer Fitness Training. His well-rounded professional experiences will help shape the future of WTAFD.
Having a reputation of serving Firefighters, Paramedics, and Officers, Chief Brock will bring a personable approach to his position. - Quarterly Nutrition Talks to provide a path to more desirable health outcomes for longevity throughout the stages of our careers.
- Recruit Class Fitness planning for performance readiness in class and physical improvement throughout while reducing injuries.
- Stipend implementation based on performance of quarterly health and wellness initiatives as compared to industry normative data.
- He also worked with mental health providers to provide resiliency training in order to cope with the day-to-day stresses of the Fire and EMS profession.
