From school visits to CPR training and all aspects of community engagement in between, the Public Education division works hard to make sure we are present, involved, and educating our community. After all, it's only through knowledge that we can ensure safety and stability for the future. Current Public Education offerings include:
Risk Watch
Crew/Apparatus Visits Carseat Installation Checks Senior Safety Chats Fire Station Tours |
CPR Certification
Inflatable Smokehouse Community Fire Alarm Checks Jr. Police & Fire Academy Civilian Firefighter Academy |

Risk Watch
Risk Watch
Each school year, we offer monthly lessons presented by our Public Education Director. While these 30-minute lessons are generally geared towards Pre-K - 1st grade, accommodations and adjustments can be made for older ages.
If you are interested in scheduling a Risk Watch lesson at your school, please submit your request HERE If you are interested in a safety program for grades 2nd and up, please reach out to our Public Educator. |
Crew visits
Crew/Apparatus Visits
Regardless of the occasion, we would love to send out an engine and crew to visit your group. Adapted for your age group (Pre-Ks to senior communities), our firefighters will give a tour of the apparatus, explain what all their job entails, answer questions, and show off what a full set of gear looks and sounds like while on. Photo opportunities with the apparatus and crew are also available.
To schedule a crew to come out to your event, please email our Public Educator. |
car seat checks
Car Seat Checks
Whether it's your first child or your seventh, getting a second opinion on the car seat you utilize is key to minimizing the chance of injury in the event of a crash. Our Public Education team is nationally trained to ensure your child's car seat is up to standards and correct for your little one.
Car seat checks are conducted on a by-appointment basis at our Headquarters. Please schedule your car seat appointment through our Calendly scheduler located HERE |
Station tours
Station Tours
What a better way to have your group learn about fire safety than at the fire station with actual firefighters? Station visits occur on Mondays and Wednesdays, and we can accommodate any type of group--family unit, school groups, girl/boy scouts, etc.!
To sign up for a tour at one of our stations, please check our availability calendar HERE |
Senior Safety chats
Senior Safety Chats
We have a large population of senior citizens in our community, and we want to make sure they are as safe as possible. To that end, we have multiple types of safety chats available, which work as relaxed, roundtable discussions and question sessions. Topics we generally focus on are fire, fall, and medication safety, though if your community has a specific topic they'd like discussed, we can certainly accommodate.
Please reach out to our Public Educator, Courtney Lee, to schedule a Senior Safety Chat. |
inflatable smokehouse
INFLATABLE SMOKEHOUSE
Our inflatable, educational smokehouse has made its way across Avon, showing up at numerous public events at schools, businesses, and festivals. Guided tours through the inflatable are given by the Public Education Team and setup generally includes a booth/table and fire safety handouts.
If you would like to request the inflatable smokehouse at your event, please reach out to our Public Educator. |
Community smoke detector Checks
SMOKE DETECTOR CHECKS
To ensure that our community has the best opportunity for successfully navigating an emergency fire situation, we are able to come out and do smoke detector checks and battery changes. While we encourage these to be conducted specifically for large-scale living communities (apartments, senior living communities, etc.) our Public Education Team can come out to individual homes on a case-by-case basis.
If you would like to request a smoke detector check-up in your community, please reach out to our Public Education Director. |

COURTNEY LEEPublic Educator
|
Courtney Lee has served over 4 years as the Administrative Assistant for Washington Township Avon Fire Department. During that time, she has worked closely with the Public Educators and performed many aspects of the position.
While talking on more responsibilities in the current year 2023, she has proven to be an invaluable asset to our department and the community in which she serves. A CPR Instructor, Car Seat Technician, Project Lifesaver advocate and operator, Social Media visionary, and Junior Police and Fire Academy Coordinator, Courtney evolved as the ideal candidate for the position once it became available. Not to mention her support by the department as a whole as noted by her nomination and receipt of Employee Of The Year Honors in 2021. |
